When I first got into Homeworld, I was blissfully unaware that this space-based RTS had been influenced by the original pre-reboot Battlestar Galactica. But I’m more than happy for them to recycle chunks of plot as long as Homeworld 3 has the same big Battlestar Galactica energy as its predecessors. After Homeworld, Homeworld: Cataclysm (re-released as Emergence), and Homeworld 2, they’ve got to come up with a fourth way for the Hiigarans to be exiled to the stars. The bad guys, the bad guys who are also your allies, and you, the universal good guys.I don’t envy whoever’s writing the story of Homeworld 3.

Homeworld has a suprisingly rich story for the game it was, but Desert of Kharak reduces all those cultures to 3 factions. While 1 is a necessity given the type of game this is, 2 and 3 are kinda sad because they flatten the setting. The discovery of the guidestone, as well as every major plot event in the campaign, is done by a direct relative of Karen S'jet, as opposed to the none S'jet archeologist. In Deserts of Kharak, they are a pretty big power, and also happen to make up most of your crew.ģ) They do the hollywood "plot relevance is in you DNA thing". Instead, they're just avoiding taking sides, impartially denoting the knowledge they find. In the manual, they are a relatively small group of researchers, being explicitly noted not to have turned their expertise into political power. By the time of the discovery of the Guidestone, nothing remains of them but a handful of nomads and legends, having blown up their last settlements decades ago.Ģ) The importance of the Kiith S'jet is greatly increased. The Gaalsien, your main enemies in Deserts of Kharak, cease being a major power in the medieval era, where the Heresy wars rage around the planet. Deserts of Kharak is an RTS which means you need combat, which doesn't gel with the peaceful exploration as present in the manual.ġ) There is no battle around the discovery of the guidestone.
HOMEWORLD 3 MOTHERSHIP MANUAL
If you have your old manual from the first game laying around, you could even follow the story beat by beat :Dĭeserts of Kharak does not match the history as written down in the original manuals, because it can't.
